PHMS Has Two Winners at the BCPS Middle School Juried Art Show
On Tuesday, March 28th, two talented PHMS eighth graders won awards for their artwork at the ceremony at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts. Tiffany Qiu won first place for her mixed media sculpture in the "Artistic Risk: Experimentation and Transformation" category, and Mareisha Banga won second place in the "Concept: Communicating a Personal Idea" category for her triple self-portrait entitled Reality.
Talented PHMS Art Students Win County PTA Reflections Awards
Our PHMS PTSA is very pleased to announce that four of our seventh grade students received awards and recognition on the county level for their entries in the Baltimore County PTA Reflections contest. In the Visual Arts category, Wave of Music by Grace Duong received an Award of Excellence and moved on to the Maryland State competition. My World by Akua Ofori-Awuah and Colors by Brianna Huether also received Awards of Merit at the county level. In the Music Composition category, The Sky is the Limit by Joslyn Kim received an Award of Excellence and will move on to the Maryland State competition. All are students in Ms. Schappel's seventh grade art class.
These students will receive their awards at the Baltimore County PTA Council Reflections Ceremony on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Cockeysville Middle School. We wish good luck to Grace and Joslyn as their works move on to the state competition.
Laiba Iqbal Receives First Place Award in the First Lady's Gallery
On March 20th, Laiba Iqbal, eighth grader at PHMS, was awarded first place in the middle school category by the Fine Arts Office of the Maryland State Department of Education. Laiba's self-portrait was one of the featured works in the First Lady's Gallery. As part of the award, Laiba received a Governor's citation. We join with her art teacher, Ms. Momenzadeh, in congratulating Laiba on this achievement!
PHMS Eighth Grader Named 2017 Maryland Woman of Tomorrow
Isabella Hessler, who is in the eighth grade at Perry Hall Middle, was recently honored as one of the 2017 "Women of Tomorrow" by the Maryland Commission for Women. Isabella was one of five middle school girls given this honor at a ceremony on March 16 at the Miller State Building in Annapolis. Isabella was nominated by the Women's Law Center of Maryland. PHMS Art Students Win National Scholastic Art Awards
Congratulations to Mareisha Banga and Tiffany Qiu, eighth graders in Ms. Momenzadeh's art class, who recently won Silver Keys in the sculpture category for the Scholastic Art Awards, a national contest. Mareisha's sculpture, pictured above, is entitled Seraphim and Tiffany Qiu's sculpture entitled More Than a Label and pictured below, are just two examples of the award-winning artwork produced by our PHMS students.
