Check for currency of information. The accuracy of scientific information is often dependent upon how up-to-date it is.
Consider the source of the information by examining the web address.
- Recognized sources from governmental agencies often end in .gov
- Sites from non-profit agencies often end in .org
- Educational sites sponsored by universities often end in .edu
Be careful with .com sites. These are commercial sites designed to sell or promote a product. Their goal is usually to make a profit rather than to provide education on a topic.
Check for the author's name and credentials. If that information is not provided, you might want to consider using another site.
